What the heck did we used to do for entertainment before the 1950s when TV was first launched? It must seem rather strange when you think back to whoever it was that bought the very first commercial television. What did he/she watch?? All we can think is that they didn't exactly have a great choice of television channels to choose from.
Time moves on
But time has marched on since those first pioneering days, when the TV's were small circular screens, housed in deep dark brown wooden cabinets, with pictures in back and white only. The TV presenters were all very serious and sat there primly and properly in their black high neck dresses or suit, collar and tie. But it wasn't long before there were hundreds of new television channels being pumped out by hundreds of new independent TV companies. It didn't take folks long at all to catch on to the new entertainment phenomena, and watching TV is now by far the most popular leisure activity on the planet.
Cable & Satellite
When cable first came on the scene back in to the 1960s it gave birth to a whole new generation of Television channels. The market was already there and so it was simply a case of how quickly cable could be installed in homes across the world.
Cable was of course followed by Satellite TV, bringing with it even greater opportunities for the further expansion of television channels. If you look across the whole world today there are literally millions of TV channels in broadcast, many of which you can bring into your own home with the right equipment and package deal.
Broadband
The latest phenomenon is the arrival of broadband. This is perhaps the single largest event in the TV revolution. Not only can you watch Television channels on your pc or laptop, you can now make your own programs, and in theory launch your very own TV channel. Modern technology'. Where to next?
